As a result of this and similar protests around the country back in 2009, tens of thousands of Americans kept their homes despite the economic pressure of the Great Recession. Still, we could convince a majority of state and federal legislators to implement systematic comprehensive relief for homeowners, such as mandatory mediation, bankruptcy reform. As a result homeowners bore the brunt of the recession. Many neighborhoods remain devastated, especially communities of color and lower income families. It was not the fault of the borrowers, or the Fannie and Freddie - it was the failure of regulatory oversight that created the debacle.
